Metropolitan Kalamazoo Branch Freedom Fund 2020
Ava Duvernay recently produced a Netflix four-part documentary "When They See Us." This must-see documentary chronicles the infamous five Black and Latino boys known as the Central Park Five. These boys were wrongfully convicted of the 1989 assault and rape of a white woman in New York Central Park and lost their freedom for more than ten years because the justice system didn't recognize their humanity.
This powerful story mirrors so many we hear around the country about our unbalanced justice system. The Metropolitan Kalamazoo Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) continues to fight alongside its parent organization to ensure that all people regardless of race, gender, class, sexual identity or physical disability have the freedom to pursue opportunities in this life that promise a full quality of life. We continue our quest for equality and justice for all residents in the greater Kalamazoo area, especially the underrepresented and people of color. And will continue to fight to protect basic civil rights, including healthcare, affordable housing, economic stability, literacy and quality education for our children.
We are still a vital artery in the heart of this community! This year, we are proud to celebrate 73 years of service during our Annual Freedom Fund Banquet, Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the Bernhard Center located on the campus of Western Michigan University from 5:00pm-7:30pm. We would honored for you to be a part.
Contributions to the Metropolitan Kalamazoo Branch can be made through the purchase of ads for the Freedom Fund Banquet booklet or sponsorships of programming. In addition to tables at the Banquet and/or an ad in the booklet, all organizations that elect to contribute at the sponsorship level will be recognized throughout the year at various programs hosted by the Metropolitan Kalamazoo Branch. (Ad & Sponsorship Deadline: October 14, 2019)
We understand that in order to fight systems, we have to refocus our tactics. Our theme this year, “Freedom Knows Only One Direction... FORWARD!” Your contribution guarantees our ability to continue to be that resounding voice of equality and justice for the people in Kalamazoo and surrounding areas!
Thank you for your support. Your contribution guarantees our ability to continue to be that resounding voice of equality and justice for the people in Kalamazoo and surrounding areas!
