Calling all local Photographers!


The Center for New Media at KVCC's downtown campus will showcase the work of our student and local photographers for our September Art show. We would love to showcase the beautiful work of our community members alongside our student work! The event will premiere at 5:30 to 8:00 pm during the September 3rd Art Hop.


The deadline for submissions is August 27, 2021.


Submissions must include both a physical and digital copy of. All physical work must be framed ready for hanging before submission. Digital copies can be emailed to Cindy Parks (cparks@kvcc.edu) and Jordan Wilson (jwilson9200@kvcc.edu). Physical submissions will be accepted Monday – Thursday between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the center doors of the Center for New Media. Contact Cindy Parks at 269.373.7881 or cparks@kvcc.edu to schedule a time for delivery.

Each year, high school students across the country start a journey to sharpen their skills through the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO). From visual arts and business to performing and culinary arts, participants work with community-based volunteers for a year to develop projects and performances. The experience culminates in local and national events where students compete for scholarships and other rewards.


Winners from the local competitions compete at the National Competition and Ceremonies, held every July in conjunction with the NAACP National Convention.

July 9, Sean Milliner – Short Story (9:30 am)

July 9, Chanel Wilson – Entrepreneuership (10 am)

July 9, Sierra Ward – Original Essay (1:30 pm)

July 11, Awards ceremony pre-party begins at 5 pm - 43rd NAACP ACT-SO Awards Ceremony begins at 6pm

HOW TO VIEW COMPETITIONS

All competitions can be viewed at www.naacpconvention.org. Registration is not required to

view competitions, however, viewers must create a profile to customize a schedule, get alerts,

and participate in the chat. The registration component is live. Updates are pushed to user

emails that elect to register.
