Act-So Metro Kalamazoo NAACP 2021 Competition - July 7 - 11

Each year, high school students across the country start a journey to sharpen their skills through the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO). From visual arts and business to performing and culinary arts, participants work with community-based volunteers for a year to develop projects and performances. The experience culminates in local and national events where students compete for scholarships and other rewards.


Winners from the local competitions compete at the National Competition and Ceremonies, held every July in conjunction with the NAACP National Convention.

July 7, Maya Daniels – Drawing (9 am)

July 8, Sadaya Hamby – Poetry Performance (1 pm)

July 9, Sean Milliner – Short Story (9:30 am)

July 9, Chanel Wilson – Entrepreneuership (10 am)

July 9, Sadaya Hamby – Poetry Written (10:30 am)

July 9, Sierra Ward – Original Essay (1:30 pm)

July 11, Awards ceremony pre-party begins at 5 pm - 43rd NAACP ACT-SO Awards Ceremony begins at 6pm

HOW TO VIEW COMPETITIONS

All competitions can be viewed at www.naacpconvention.org. Registration is not required to

view competitions, however, viewers must create a profile to customize a schedule, get alerts,

and participate in the chat. The registration component is live. Updates are pushed to user

emails that elect to register.
